Just over 20 years ago (1994) an estimated 1 million Rwandans were murdered in the span of 100 days. The forces of discrimination, hatred and dehumanization had been simmering for years and boiled over when a plane carrying the Presidents of Burundi and Rwanda was shot down. This event ignited several months of intense and systematic killings.
ALARM, led a Rwandan Celestin Musekura, has been working in Rwanda and the surrounding countries for the past 20 years. Celestin's heart broke for the trauma, pain and loss his nation had endured. He like many others who had survived but endured so much loss from the death of many family members and friends -- DECLARED this could not happen again.
The solution was to work alongside the countries greatest resource — the Rwandan leaders.
